Joey Can’t Believe He’s Kissing Rachel | Friends
It was the moment that shocked Friends fans everywhere. After years of will-they-won’t-they tension, Joey Tribbiani and Rachel Green shared a passionate kiss on season 10 episode 01, “The One After Joey and Rachel Kiss.”
The storyline played out over the course of several episodes, with Joey and Rachel struggling to come to terms with their feelings for each other in the wake of Ross and Rachel’s tumultuous relationship. And while some fans were thrilled by the unexpected twist, others couldn’t quite get on board with the idaof Joey and Rachel as a couple.
For actor Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey on the show, the experience was just as surprising as it was for viewers at home. In fact, he initially had reservations about the storyline and wasn’t sure how he could make it work.
“I remember when that whole thing was laid out,” LeBlanc said in an interview with People. “I was like, ‘What? That’s never going to work.’”
But as the plot unfolded, LeBlanc found himself getting more and more invested in Joey and Rachel’s burgeoning romance. He was particularly struck by a scene in which Joey struggles to come to terms with his feelings for Rachel while overhearing her talking to Ross.“I’m not going to do this, I’m not going to eavesdrop on my friend,” Joey says in the episode. “And then it kind of takes over, and he can’t help but listen. And then he hears something that he shouldn’t have heard, and it changes everything.”LeBlanc said that he was so moved by the scene that he started to tear up while filming it.“As an actor, I was like, ‘Oh man, this is going to be a real thing,’” he said.Ultimately, Joey and Rachel’s relationship didn’t last, and the characters ultimately decided they were better off as friends. But for fans who still can’t get enough of the iconic show, the kiss remains one of Friends’ most memorable moments.Whether you’re Team Ross or Team Joey, there’s no denying that the kiss was a game-changer for the show. And for LeBlanc, it was a chance to explore new depths of his character and bring something unexpected to the table.“I thought it would be a really interesting dynamic,” he said. “It was fun to play, and I think it added a new flavor to the show.”
